Concerts in 2026

Next Concert: Birthday Celebrations

Our concert for Spring 2026 will take place on Saturday 21st March at Orwell Village Hall and will be in two parts.

The first will have two silent films with piano accompaniment, as in the olden days. One is A Trip to the Moon, made in 1902 and directed and produced by Georges Melies. The film was inspired by Jules Verne’s novel From The Earth to The Moon (1865) and its sequel Around the Moon (1870). The other is One Week, made in 1920 directed by and starring Buster Keaton and is a comedy about a couple attempting to build a prefabricated house in one week.

In the second at the same venue the choir will perform a short sequence of songs inspired by these films or linked to them in some tenuous way! On the Moon theme they will include Blue Moon, Moon River and Fly me to the Moon, then on the 1902 date theme Elgar’s Ave Verum Corpus and the Gershwin Medley both written in that year. There will be other items once we’ve found ones with suitable connections.

Our summer concert will be on Saturday 11th July, programme to follow but including choruses from Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas composed in 1688, and more modern songs on a Myths & Legends theme.
